10 Years in the Making!
- Christine Hanefalk has been a Daredevil fan since 2005 and started blogging about Daredevil at The Other Murdock Papers in late 2007.
- Combining her educational background and general interest in the natural sciences, Christine started writing posts about how a character like Matt Murdock might fare under the scrutiny of real science. These became some of the most popular and commented posts on the site.
- In 2012, Christine started thinking about one day writing a proper science non-fiction book about Daredevil. Ten years later, the book is available in stores and includes examples from both the comics, the 2015-2018 Daredevil television show, and to a lesser extent the 2003 Daredevil movie.
A Passion Project
While this multi-year book project has proceeded in fits and starts over many years, Christine finally hit a point where she decided that finishing what became “Being Matt Murdock” was something she wanted to prioritize above pretty much all else. The book was completed over the course of just under a year, and released on July 15, 2022.
A Research Project
Christine holds a Master of Science in Engineering degree in Molecular Biothechnology from Uppsala University (in her native Sweden), and has had a lifelong interest in the natural sciences, and the life sciences in particular. What this has taught her, most of all, is how to approach – and parse – both the research literature and the more basic textbook material pertinent to the scientific topic covered in the book.
Christine has spent hundreds of hours over several years to digging into the relevant literature. The research has also extended to the comics themselves, another important source, with particular attention paid to the treatment of Daredevil’s heightened senses and blindness.
As regular visitors to The Other Murdock Papers know, Christine has been writing about these topics for many years on her blog (also the parent domain for this very page). See some recommended posts below!
