"How I love the shape of your bald head"

Francesco and I have been joking about this panel a couple of times, and now is as good a time as any to poke a little fun at it. The scan below is from Daredevil #105 (vol 1) with art by Jim Starlin, and features the first meeting of Daredevil and Moondragon. Steve Gerber was a new writer on Daredevil, having come on board during the Dark Messiah story arc a half-dozen issues earlier and he took Matt all kinds of weird places. I probably don’t have to tell anyone why I think this scenario is funny, but I’m going to anyway…

“And that woman–! Even without hair… she’s the most strikingly beautiful female I’ve ever ‘seen’!”

Matt, oh Matt… If the art in this issue is any indication, she looks like someone with an egg for a head to you. It ain’t pretty, and the Dr Strange-esque cape isn’t exactly helping. Yeah, that’s really hot. Although, maybe it is to you. Well, since you’re blind and all that. Sure, a shape-sensing superpowered freak of a blind guy, but still. She an egghead! Or maybe a conehead (remember the SNL characters?). Whatever floats your boat buddy…

Disclaimer: This post was not meant to be an insult against women who are in fact bald, by choice or due to either chemotherapy or conditions like alopecia. Bald women can be very beautiful. Really. Just look at Sinead O’Connor. You just might want someone who isn’t a blind superhero tell you that. Also, no animals were harmed during the writing of this post.

Despite the “seen” goof, I suppose Matt detects a shapely contour and a nice smell ;p… even if an excessive roundness around her skull, which Matt’s senses know it is not due to her wearing a swimming hood.

Other than that, I think it’s cool to have a hero who digs a bald woman: when shall we see Matt in love with a “real woman with curves”?

funny bit: one of Moondragon’s power is to generate emotions. When she was a Defender, she used it with Angel and Iceman to inspire them to “fall in love” with her (in a physical way, I must say), Perhaps he did the same with Murdock?
I think it will be interesting having Matt meet Moondragon in the present. It has rained a lot for DD and Madame McEvil!
