First off, Happy New Year! I hope all of you have had a great holiday season and an excellent start to 2013. As far as resolutions go, I haven’t made that many – it’s better to keep the list short and attainable – but one resolution I have for this site is actually to make fewer resolutions.
From now on, I’m going to stop apologizing for the fact that I may write five posts one month and twelve the next, and I’m not going to make promises that I never seem to be able to keep for when a particular post will be up. This site is a one-woman operation and I’m pretty sure all of my readers are aware that I don’t exactly do this for a living. No one expects me to be CBR, and I’m sure that you guys have plenty of other things to do besides reading this blog. So, no more apologizing! I will post when the mood strikes, just as I always have, and not beat myself up if I occasionally let two weeks go by without an update.
Still, the fact that this site recently had its 5-year anniversary (my first post was published on December 3, 2007), and that the post you’re reading right now is post number 600, has made me reflect on what’s gone before as well as what the future might bring. One thing I realized is that I might have to redesign the site a bit in order to make it easier for first time visitors to actually find what they’re looking for. The front page really only gives you the most recent posts which is fine for regular, old-time readers. But, I actually did a word count of the contents of this site and it came back with a number that exceeded 350,000. That’s the equivalent of about three standard novels. That made me realize that it might be a good idea to put more “featured” content up on the start page to guide new (and old) readers directly to some of the older stuff that’s still worth reading rather than having it buried on the archives page. In keeping with my “no resolutions” resolution, I will not set a deadline for this development, but don’t be shocked if you arrive one day and I’ve given the site a make-over. Nothing too extreme though, I promise.
Things I’m looking forward to in 2013
First of all: Daredevil (i.e. the main title). I guess that goes without saying, but I’m really excited about what’s happening right now and where the story might be heading. The Matt vs. Foggy dynamic is interesting and I expect to see some great character development coming out of this conflict. Then there’s the Milla mystery, the issue of who has been pulling Daredevil’s strings, and all of Matt’s unresolved personal issues. And, given that we’re about to be reunited with Stilt-Man in Daredevil #22 (see panels from the preview below), I can’t wait to see what new and old villains Waid, Samnee and the rest of the team will line up for Daredevil in the following issues.
Secondly, as of Daredevil: End of Days #4 (which came out yesterday), I finally find myself genuinely intrigued by where that series is going. We’ll have a final resolution to the story by the time the eight and final issue comes out later this spring.
Another thing to look forward to is a project I’ve actually been involved in. It’s an anthology published by Sequart and edited by Ryan K Lindsay called The Devil is in the Details: Examining Matt Murdock and Daredevil. I wrote the chapter on Foggy for this book, but am really looking forward to reading the other chapters. Check out the details here and keep your eyes peeled for this one!
Well, that’s it for now! What are you hoping for in 2013, Daredevil-related or otherwise?
