Hey everyone! I spent the weekend in Leeds, England at the Thought Bubble Festival getting my geek on. I had a great time and got the opportunity to meet lots of new and old friends – and, in several cases, connecting them to their Twitter handles.

I also got to meet Mark Waid (for the first time), as well as Paolo Rivera and Antony Johnston (both of whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting before). I feel like I got into something of a t-shirt face-off with Paolo Rivera on day one when I lined up for a sketch. While I sported my beloved “Matt Murdock likes my shirt better than yours” (written in braille across the chest, purchased from Alice “Darediva” Lynch’s brailletshirts.com), Paolo wore the “I’m not Daredevil” design actually featured in Daredevil #7 (and as seen here). Clearly, Matt Murdock likes Paolo’s shirt better. Though he’d probably prefer to read mine. 😉

Quick interview with Mark Waid

On day two, I conducted a one-minute flash interview with Mark Waid. I’m culturally conditioned to not hold up a line (or should I say “queue”?) for longer than absolutely necessary so it had to be a quick one. Especially since I also had to work a verbose expression of appreciation for his work in there. With my italicized comments obviously added after the fact, it went something like this:

David from Comicbooked.com asked you at NYCC to sum up what was in store for Matt Murdock in one word. You said “desperation.” If you get one more word, what would it be?
Mark Waid

I totally love this. This could mean so many different things, but I have a hard time thinking of a scenario attached to that word that I won’t like.

Should we be worried about Foggy’s drinking habits?
Mark Waid
That’s not what you should be worried about when it comes to Foggy.

At this point, Waid really did stress the point that we should be worried about Foggy, which I must admit, is an interesting change from just worrying about Matt.

Any more news on when we can expect a Hulk/Daredevil cross-over?
Mark Waid
Within the next year; the timing depends on how things progress in the Hulk book.
We just saw Milla again, any other former love interests on the horizon?
Mark Waid
Yes. And that’s all I can say.
Finally, is red Matt Murdock’s favorite color or does he just think it is?
Mark Waid
He just thinks it is.

I admit, this is a really weird question. There was some kind of thought behind it (vaguely related to the philosophical concept of qualia), but I can’t really think of it now. 😉 I’ll have to blame being ever so slightly hung over at the time. What I really should have asked is what difference being part of Marvel NOW will make for Daredevil, though I may have someone else lined up that I can pose that question to…

It really was a treat meeting Mark Waid and he was very nice. As you all know, tomorrow is new Daredevil day, and I hope to get back to you tomorrow with my review. See you then!

  1. As one of those people who turned out to be a real person behind a twitter handle, I’d just like to say that it was absolutely superb to meet you and spend various parts of the weekend chatting about DD with you. I’m still buzzing off the high of the weekend, and every now and again a memory of the mid-con party comes crashing back!

  2. I was thinking the other day about your braille t-shirt, I couldn’t remember the first post where you mentioned it and where you got it. Thanks for the timely reminder! 😉

    Paolo’s shirt rocks too.

If Waid stressed be worried about Foggy, then suddenly I am very afraid for our favorite law partner and best friend.

  3. I broke my Though Bubble ‘Cherry’ and paid a visit on the Saturday. I didn’t see Mark Waid or anyone in a DD shirt, and I was looking ! but did get to see Anthony J and Paulo R ( from whom I blagged a quick DD sketch ) Did anyone get to hear Mark Waid and Andy Diggle talking at the writers panel?
