Reading though your Oh Karen! posts has allowed me to pin down, for the first time, exactly why I loved the Lee/Colan issues of Daredevil so much. Lee was writing a superhero screwball comedy, where one damn thing just happens right after the other, and logic be damned as long as it's fun. Bringing Up Baby with super-powers. Picture a young Cary Grant as Matt Murdock and Marilyn Monroe from Monkey Business as Karen Page, and you're not far off.

Reading some of the dialogue from the 60s drives me batty with its over-use, in wholly inappropriate situations, of ellipses and hyphens. Even if you just think of them as something like pauses in speech, they still make no sense!

"You mean *pause* you're disguised as Thor *pause* so that the Cobra *pause* and Hyde *pause * will attack you?"
"If Matt needs me *pause* I'd give my very life *pause* to help him!"
"Since I've come this far *pause* I might as well *pause* go in!"

No wonder Karen's so disappointed when "Mike" can't see her new hairdo. The only way she could reasonably secure a man would be to overcome her ridiculously annoying speaking cadence with overwhelming beauty!

On an unrelated note, it's sad that Matt never developed any semblance of loyalty to what is ostensibly his firm. Even in the Bendis and Brubaker years, Matt will go a month or so without ever coming into the office. Poor, overworked Foggy. The addition of Becky Blake to the firm was probably just supposed to secure the presence of TWO lawyers in the office. Reading Daredevil teaches you a valuable lesson: don't go into business with your friends if you can't be a jerk and lay down some basic ground rules now and again, like "you actually have to work."
