I wanted Milla to stay and go through further development. her introduction by Bendis I found a bit "girlfriend ex-machina", but once you had Matt married, it would have been good to explore her and not just having her coming and going (I felt Bendis undersused his own creation).

I actually believe that it was Brubaker the one who has given some further depth to her motives, and, as Christine says, also showed the depth of Matt's love to her (that night visit!)... Still, I don't think we've seen the last of Milla, and I agree that it is unlikely that matt will just go for the next as it happened with, say, Echo after Karen. I've got the feeling tat his writing is more organic, and will have Matt outgrowing the situation, in the same way that he made him return to his "normal life".

I mean, Bru didn't "undo" Matt's marriage by having Mephisto magically "fixing" the whole thing, or undo Foggy's death by telling that the dead nelson was actually a skrull... Brubaker writes Dd almost as if it was part of our universe

And now I definitely think he will make Matt smile again, I mean, Bru has Cyclops smiling!!

Thanks for your comment! While I've said here and elsewhere that I really liked Without Fear, I take issue with the idea that some fans have that if Matt's back isn't constantly against the wall, his stories are no good. I can think of few characters that are as versatile as Matt Murdock, and having him constantly doing the mourning and brooding thing is the same thing as typecasting a great actor.

You're right about Milla's character never being explored. The same goes for their relationship, and I was hoping that Brubaker could have done something more with that. On the other hand, I think he did a decent job of at least selling Matt's love for her in the last arc. Whatever happens next, he won't go looking for love any time soon. The way his life is going, he could certainly do with some "me time."

As for what Brubaker wanted to do with this arc, only he knows, but I think that things will get better from now on. How can they not? And, as someone who always loved the fact that Matt is a lawyer, I look forward to the closer look at his "day job" coming up in the next arc.

You're entirely right - constant pain cheapens the pain, and reading this arc has been depressing in itself. Maybe that's the effect Brubaker wanted, but it's not much fun to read, and not very interesting, either. I'm glad Milla's not dead, but nothing was ever really done with her character after her early appearances, despite Bendis's promises of filling in that year gap. Maybe Brubaker could have done something with Milla's rather stalker-ish behaviour in earlier issues - have her dump Matt when the superhero lifestyle isn't all she thought, or, like many stalkers do, realise that the actual human being can't live up to the object of desire!
